Mini vacation

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

If it's been awhile since the two of you were alone together, away from home, set up a mini vacation.  All you need is half a day. Hope in the car, drive an hour or two, sight see or walk some place new, have a nice meal, and head home.

Repeat every couple of months.

Stock up now

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Hit a store today and grab some half price Valentine's stuff. Anything that doesn't say Valentines is good for a little gift any time, and anything with hearts is a good romantic choice.

Winter flowers

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Give her some flowers to brighten up the cold, dark time of year.  And, do it now, before it's expected for Valentine's - and before the prices go up for Valentine's!

Small, simple, and frequent

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Come up with a small, simple gift that you can give her each day, or once a week, or every 11 days, or the first of each month.

Daily you could leave a single piece of candy, or a puzzle she likes (Sudoku, Crossword).   For less frequent gifts you could do magazines, books, clothing, candles ...

Love letter

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

A friend of ours recently mentioned that years ago when she and her hubby had very little money they agreed to exchange love letters on Christmas day.  This has become a tradition that they both enjoy and look forward to a great deal.

Seems to me this is a very good tradition, regardless of what other gifts you do or do not give.  May I suggest you either this tradition this year by writing a love letter for your bride?  Or, discuss it now so your wife can write one for you.

If you do this, please put a good deal of time and thought into it.  This is a chance to really bless her in a deep and meaningful way.

Buying Guide

Friday, November 27th, 2009

This post, and your comments will be for sharing gift ideas for our brides.  Links are appreciated, if they are not visually sexual (let's be kind to our brothers who struggle with lust).  What I am looking for here is gifts that really thrilled or blessed your bride,  unique ideas, and inexpensive gifts - if you have a gift that is all three, PLEASE share!

A few of my ideas:

  • A class - anything she has shown an interest in learning to do.
  • Latches and a silicone gasket food storage containers. These do not leak, stack nicely, and their rectangular shape is more space efficient.
  • Kindle - Yes, it's pricey, but if she is big on reading, it will be a gift she will enjoy regularly for a very long time.
  • The Princess Bride [20th Anniversary Edition] - My bride got this for me for my birthday. If you two were among those who memorized the lines to the movie, this is a fun gift.

Less

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

My bride wrote this a week or so back:

The holidays are coming!!!!  When you are making your plans, consider simplifying and doing only the really important stuff.  Grab a pad and pencil, write down everything that you would like to do, circle and do the things that will really bless you, your husband and family.  Cut back on the rest or cross it off your list altogether.  Being an unfrazzled wife is on of the kindest, nicest things you can do for your husband.

Less is more. Robert Browning

A high five to that!  Also, may I suggest you think, pray, and discuss your gift giving this year? This is especially important if you have a habit of going into debt for Christmas shopping. Set a budget you can live with, and stick to it.

You might also consider not giving gifts to each other, or giving fewer and less expensive gifts, and using the money to help others. Help a couple who can't afford to buy gifts for their kids - help a family who can't afford to put enough food on the table - or find a good cause and donate to that. Your time can also be donated, and doing this as a family is a custom that some have and deeply enjoy. Imagine what you can teach your kids!

Gift coupons

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Self made gift coupons can be great, if you give her things she wants. A few ideas (add your own on-line with comments):

  • "I'll do the dishes" - be ready to do them, no matter what.
  • "Two hours of TV you want to watch" - exclude the play offs if you must!
  • "Dinner out" - set aside money if you need to.
  • "I'll go get dinner" - as above.
  • "A movie of your choice" - something like "requires 48 hour notice is good".
  • "A very long back rub" - add "with no expectation of sex to follow" if appropriate.
